Sinopsis

Excerpt from Social Physics: From the Positive Philosophy of Auguste Comte

The misfortune Of our actual state is that the two ideas are set up in radical Opposition to each other - the retrograde Spirit having directed all efforts-ih favor of Order, and anarchical doctrine hav ing arrogated to itself the charge Of Social Progress; and, in this state of things, the reproaches exchanged between the respective parties are only too well merited by both. In this vicious circle is society new confined and the only issue from it is by the undispu ted preponderance Of a doctrine equally progressive and hierarchi cal. The Observations which I have to make On this subject are applicable to all European societies, which have, in fact, all under gone a common disorganization, though in different degrees, and with various modifications, and which can not be separately reergam izod, however they may be for a time restrained; but I shall keep the French nation chiefly in view, not only because the revolution ary state has been most conspicuous in them, but because they are, in all important respects, better prepared, in Spite Of appearances, than any other, for a true reorganization.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the social and political turmoil of the time, examining the intellectual and political upheavals that have shaken the foundations of society. The author argues that the traditional order, rooted in theological and military systems, is decaying and unable to meet the demands of progress. He then examines the alternative system of "metaphysical" or revolutionary thought, which, while initially progressive, has become just as disruptive and unable to provide a lasting solution. The author draws on the historical analysis of the Catholic and feudal system to illustrate the limitations of both traditional and revolutionary approaches. He proposes that a new understanding of society is needed, one that goes beyond both old and new systems. By embracing a "positive philosophy" that blends order with progress, the author believes society can transcend its state of intellectual and political anarchy. The author delves into fundamental social and political concepts such as free inquiry, equality, the sovereignty of the people, and the role of political centralization. Through a detailed analysis of these concepts, the author illuminates the complexities and pitfalls of both the traditional and revolutionary schools of thought, highlighting their inability to provide a path towards a lasting social order. The book offers a compelling and insightful exploration of the challenges facing society in an era of upheaval and provides a framework for understanding the need for a new, more comprehensive approach to social organization. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
