Excerpt from The Excellency of the Liturgy: In Four Discourses, Preached Before the University of Cambridge, in November, 1811; Also, University Sermons
The whole of the lldosaic dispensation was altogether figurative, as we see from the Epistle to the Hebrews, in which the figures themselves ale illustrated and ex plained. But there are some facts which appear too trifling to afford any instruction of this kind. We might expect indeed that so remarkable a fact as the promulgation of the law from Mount Sinai should have in it something mysterious but that the fears Of the people on that occasion, and the request dictated by those fears, should be intended by God to convey any particular. Instruction.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book investigates the historical significance of the laws promulgated from Mount Sinai as described in the Old Testament's Book of Deuteronomy. The author keenly analyzes the Israelites' request, documented in the book, to have a mediator between themselves and God. This request, the author argues, foreshadowed the coming of Jesus Christ as the mediator between God and humanity. The book delves into the themes of humanity's fear of God, the need for a mediator, and the importance of obedience to God's commandments. Through meticulous examination of the text, the author presents a fresh perspective on the significance of this pivotal event in the history of humanity's relationship with God.
