This book presents a comprehensive overview of the fundamental rules of arithmetic, beginning with the basic concepts of numbers and gradually progressing towards more complex operations. It provides clear explanations and step-by-step guidance on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The author presents these operations within a historical context, tracing their development and use throughout history. Beyond the practical applications of arithmetic, this book also explores its theoretical underpinnings. It delves into number systems, the concept of zero, and the properties of numbers, providing readers with a deeper understanding of the subject. By situating arithmetic within its broader mathematical and historical context, the author demonstrates its enduring significance as a tool for understanding the world around us.

Excerpt from Stoddard's Complete Arithmetic: Being the New Practical Arithmetic of the Series; With Additions for a Full, Practical Course of Instruction in High Schools and Academies
The pages before page 304 of this book are the same as those in the New Practical Arithmetic; therefore, pupils whose limited time for study does not allow them to pursue the subject beyond the New Practical Arithmetic, can use that book in the same class with other pupils who, intend ing to pursue the subject further in a higher class, may obtain this book at first, and save the cost of a separate book for Higher Arithmetic.
By means of the numbers at the heads of the paragraphs, reference is readily made to principles before stated, and thus a review of the whole subject is kept up and much space is saved.
