Sinopsis

A practical arithmetic course built on reasoning and abundant practice This book presents a clear path from basic number work to more advanced topics, emphasizing how to think through problems and apply arithmetic in everyday life. It aims to strengthen mental calculation, accuracy, and logical thinking while guiding teachers and students with a steady, step‑by‑step approach.

The Elementary Arithmetic portion focuses on building a solid, usable foundation with lots of practice and careful progression. The Advanced Arithmetic expands on principles and processes, helping learners reason through problems rather than just memorize techniques. The authors stress that arithmetic is both a tool for daily life and a discipline that trains thinking, concentration, and precision.

  • Clear aims and a practical classroom focus that connects arithmetic to real work and daily use

  • Gradual progression from basic operations to more complex topics like fractions and ratios

  • Emphasis on reasoning, mental work, and the responsible use of calculations

  • Structured guidance for teachers to relate new topics to prior learning and real problems

Ideal for learners seeking a solid, reasoning‑driven approach to arithmetic and for educators building systematic instruction.

Excerpt from The New Advanced Arithmetic

A number of changes have been thought desirable in the plan of The New Advanced Arithmetic; all of them, however, are intended to recognize the latest and best phases of class-room. Work in arithmetic. Some of these changes - more particularly those in the early part of the book - have been necessary the better to relate the Advanced book of the Series to the Elementary book, which has at the same time undergone revision.
