Point, or aiming at any End, that it may feem berm heath all Criticifm; and I find the Gentlemen £072 cem'el look upon it in this Light, by not having taken the leaf: Notice of it; but as many Thing: become confiderable by fome particular Circum flances, which attend them fo, perhaps, it may be thought that even this frothy Pieee of Pedamry hath fome Value fiamp'd upon it by the Approba tion offbofe, who have order'd their Creatures to cry it up as an excellent Performance, and taken great Pains to propagate it through the Kingdom. This will, at leafi, be my Excufe for beflowing a few eurfory Remarks upon it, without any Re gard to the Tbifig itfelf, or the flutbor of it.

One Way of expoling the Nothingnefs of fieeb Pmdzefiz'om, is by throwing back the Sbuttleeoek; and making Ufe oftheir own little Turns to con dema the Caufe, which They mean to defend. That this frivolous Manner of Writing may appear in a fironger Light, I will begin with lhewing that,in many l'laces7the fame Sentence, with the Change or Omilfion only of a Word or two, will read much better on the contrary Side. I hope the Obferwtor will not make any Objeétions to this Method of dallying with Him; fince it hath been fo often prae tis'd by his ingenious Brethren, the Writers a gainfi the Craftfimm; and He will perceive, from the Sequel, that it is not my Delign to dwell long Upon fueh a trifling Way of anfwering an Adver 1ar but only to expofe it, and for the Sake of reviving my Schoolboy's Talent of writing upon a Theme.
