Excerpt from The Foundations of Geometry

We think of these points, straight lines, and planes as having certain mutual relations, which we indicate by means of such words as are situated, be tween, parallel, congruent, continuous, etc. The complete and exact description of these relations follows as a consequence of the axioms of geometry. These axioms may be arranged in five groups. Each of these groups expresses, by itself, certain related fundamental facts of our intuition. We will name these groups as follows.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the foundational principles of geometry, exploring the fundamental building blocks that shape our understanding of space and form. The author meticulously examines the relationships between points, lines, and planes, establishing a system of axioms that govern their interactions. Through a rigorous analysis, the author not only demonstrates the compatibility and independence of these axioms but also sheds light on their historical significance. This exploration reveals the profound impact of Euclid's axiom of parallels and delves into alternative geometries that challenge traditional Euclidean notions. The book further investigates the concept of congruence, unveiling its role in defining geometric displacement and establishing connections between segments and angles. By dissecting these fundamental principles, the author unveils the intricate web of logic that underpins the entirety of Euclidean geometry. Ultimately, this book offers a profound appreciation for the elegance and depth of geometry, showcasing its enduring relevance as a cornerstone of mathematical understanding. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
