It may be obferved, that over the three vowels E, O, U,.there' are frequently, bypbens - the defign of which, is to exprefs the length of the found of thofe vowels - in fuch cafes they are to be pronounced.

The E as m the word flan. The 6 as in the word tone. The U as in the word tune.
