Sinopsis

Master the essentials of descriptive geometry with a practical, visualization‑driven approach for real drafting work.

This 1919 text presents descriptive geometry in a simple, logical way that aligns with commercial drafting practice. It emphasizes visualizing magnitudes in space and explains how omitting the ground line helps students focus on the object itself. The book favors the third quadrant and makes extensive use of auxiliary views, coordinate layouts, and miniature problems to train the eye and hands for accurate drafting.

  • Learn how points, lines, and planes are represented in projection, with clear methods to find true sizes and angles.

  • Work with auxiliary views and rotations to solve complex positions without memorized templates.

  • Explore shades, shadows, plane sections, and developments of curved surfaces to understand real forms.

  • Practice through problems and drafting-room style layouts that build practical skills for drawing offices.

Ideal for students and professionals in engineering drawing, architecture, and related drafting trades seeking a solid foundation in descriptive geometry.

Excerpt from Descriptive Geometry

One of the principal factors in accomplishing these desiderata is the omission of the ground line. When the views of several points are given without the ground line being shown, the dis tances of the points from the horizontal or vertical planes of projection are not' determined. The front view, however, does show the relative heights of the points and the top view shows the relative distances of the points from the vertical plane. It is the relative distances of points of an object from a plane with which we are concerned, since the distance of the whole object from the plane of projection does not change the ortho graphic projection of the object on that plane.

When it becomes necessary to locate points which are at given distances from the planes of projection the ground line must of course be used. In all cases, however, even when the ground line is not shown on the drawing, it is understood to be at right angles to the line joining the top and front views of any point.
