Apuleius mihi quidem semper nisus est requirere edi torem et cautum et audacem, qui, diligenter ratione habita generis scribendi Apuleiani nec non litterarum ductus et sententiae tenorem sedulo secutus,quaecunque merito corrupta uiderentur, probabiliter instauraret. Talem quatenus editorem praestiterim, candidus indicato lector. Saepius mihi loca lacunosa deprehendere nisus sum et ea ad integritatem reuocare sum conatus: namque fir miter persuasum habeo in omnibus fere ueterum scriptis non minus multa esse omissa, quam corrupta. Sedulo autem collegi quae uiri' docti, huius praesertim saeculi, de uerbis et Operibus Apuleianis dissemerant, et si qua esse uiderentur probabilia, in meum conuerti usum.
