Excerpt from La Basilica di S. Petronio ed IL Concorso per la Sua Facciata: Rassenga Critica
Molti anni trascorsero in un obblio assoluto, fin chè per iniziativa dell'ing. Giuseppe Ceri un consi derevole numero di cittadini deliberava nell' anno 1881 di costituire un Comitato promotore per erigere la facciata di la da venire: questo apriva una sottoscri zione con la quale sopperire alle spese ed in fine. Bandiva il Concorso che ora dev'essere giudicato.
Come s' è detto, la Deputazione di Storia Patria, richiesta di consiglio fino da quando il Comitato pensò a formulare le basi della gara, riprovava senza esi tazioni si la riedificazione che il compimento, ma l'o pera del Comitato non s' arrestò, e le obbiezioni, ta ciute per molto tempo, risorsero nuovamente quando la Deputazione di Storia Patria fu richiesta di eleg gere nu membro della Commissione giudicatrice, poi chè essa riconfermo il voto precedente e protestò di non volere essere complicedi un fatto, secondo le sue vedute, lesivo per il monumento.
