Heureux temps em core que celui - là, où les hommes ne faisaient pas défaut, et où l'on savait les former et les choisir.

Ces deux grands ministres, appuyés sur leur roi. ont fait la gloire du dix-septième siècle, et si je crois que l'époque de Louis XIII et de Richelieu est plus originale, plus élevée, et eût mérite de donner son nom au siècle, je reconnais volontiers que l'époque de Louis XIV et de Colbert est grande aussi, et que cette génération a encore une forte part de la virilité de sa devancière. Quelle que soit d'ailleurs celle des deux époques que l'on mette au-dessus de l'autre, tous ceux qui aiment la France regardent ce siècle comme privilégié.
