Excerpt from The Kohl Collection (Now in the Library of Congress) Of Maps Relating to America, Vol. 19
On July 17, 1903, the Kohl collection of maps relating to America was transferred from the Bureau of Rolls and Library, Department of State, to the Division of Maps and Charts, Library of Congress.
"Bibliographical Contribution" No. 19, of the library of Harvard University, compiled by Justin Winsor in 1886, fully describes the collection and gives references to maps not mentioned by Kohl. It has been found so valuable that, with the permission of the Harvard university library, it is here reprinted without change. I have, however, endeavored to increase its usefulness as a catalogue and as a general reference work by adding an author list of the maps and dictionary index of all subjects and authors mentioned.
