The author is aware that some persons, who employ the terms conversion and uncon version in reference to the case of the hea then, would avoid the use of them in the sense just explained, and particularly in re ference to the clerical character, where, if truth were not also charity, they might certainly appear invidious. But no other words are equally appropriate for some are inadequate to convey the idea of that spi ritual renovation which is the foundation of true piety; while others are connected with controversial discussions, which do not come within the Scope of the present Essay.
