Sinopsis

A thoughtful, accessible look at how science and faith intersect in the discussion around Darwin’s theory. This collection presents a careful examination of life’s patterns, the idea of design in nature, and the reasons some scholars draw sharp lines between different levels of creation.

The author frames the debate with historical context, outlining how ideas about life and its origins have evolved. It offers clear arguments about the limits of natural explanation and the ways in which complexity and harmony in nature can be read as evidence of thoughtful design, rather than as proof of simple descent alone.

What you’ll find inside:
- A structured survey of major questions about evolution, life, and the role of human thought.
- Clear explanations of terms and theories, including natural selection and its critics.
- Reflections on how science can coexist with religious interpretation.
- Discussion of the idea that certain “barriers” help separate different realms of life and mind.

Experience points:
- Read a careful critique that weighs scientific ideas against philosophical and religious considerations.
- Explore how authors have connected observations in biology with broader questions about meaning and purpose.
- Get a guided look at the contents and aims of the work, from early chapters to the appendix.
- See how historical figures and contemporary scholars are brought into dialogue on these topics.

Ideal for readers of science history, philosophy of science, and those curious about how faith and inquiry can inform one another.

Reseña del editor

Excerpt from The Three Barriers: Notes on Mr. Darwin's Origin of Species

These pages are the expansion of a Lecture written on Easter Monday and Tuesday of last year, and delivered the day after, fulfilment of an engagement, at a small county town in the North. Somewhat varied, it was spoken a second time on behalf of a Mechanics' Institute in Aberdeen and it was repeated a few weeks ago, in the same city, by request of the Young Men's Christian Association.
