Excerpt from A Modern Approach to Computer Systems for Linear Programming
Popular computer packages for linear programming do not differ much in concept from ones devised ten or twenty years ago. We propose a modem LP system one that takes advantage of such (relatively) new ideas as high-level languages, interactive and virtual operating systems, modular design, and hierarchical file systems. Particular topics include: computer languages that describe optimization models algebraically; specialized editors for models and data; modular algorithmic codes; and interactive result reporters. We present specific designs that incorporate these features, and discuss their likely advantages (over current systems) to both research and practical model-building.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book presents an innovative approach to linear programming (LP) that is more aligned with the capabilities of high-powered computing systems. LP solvers and Matrix Generators have remained largely unchanged since the 1950s, yet computing technology has vastly outpaced these historic methods, leaving room for improvement. The author proposes a system that uses LP models in Matrix form, interactive and virtual operating systems, and hierarchical file systems to take advantage of contemporary computing advancements. Such a system would create a more seamless workflow, increase accuracy, and eliminate common errors, resulting in LP methods that are more efficient and accessible than ever before. This book will appeal to individuals, researchers, and practitioners who seek a dynamic and comprehensive approach to LP, and is set to make significant contributions to the theory and practice of LP. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Nº de ref. del artículo: 9781332270507_0
