Sinopsis

Historic governance for steeplechase racing, captured in one definitive set of rules. This edition compiles the bylaws, rules, and organization details used by the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association in the late 19th century. It presents how the association was formed, how its board and officers operated, and how races were conducted and regulated.

The content covers the structure of the governing body, the roles of stewards and officers, licensing, race management, and the procedures that ensured fair competition. It includes rules for starting, running, judging, and penalties, as well as weighing-in, declarations, and disputes. The material offers a window into how racing standards were set and enforced in that era.

  • Organization: how Directors, Stewards, and officers are chosen and how they govern the association.

  • Rules of racing: starting procedures, fouls, disqualifications, and penalties.

  • Race operations: weigh-ins, licensing, declarations, and the handling of special cases.

  • Meetings and governance: annual meetings, quorums, and rule changes or amendments.

Ideal for readers with an interest in the history of horse racing governance, sports regulation, or 19th‑century organizational rules, this edition offers precise, historical language and structure.
