Excerpt from Simultaneous, Successive and Alternating Direction Iteration Schemes
The various iteration schemes for the solution of Zpth order elliptic difference equations in two dimen sions are studied from the point of view of minimizing a quadratic form and then from the point of View of separation of coordinates.

Excerpt from Simultaneous, Successive and Alternating Direction Iteration Schemes
The linear systems approximating- in the lorest order of approximation- the 2pth order elliptic differential equation is derivedo The connection between the simultaneous and successive iteration schemes is studied. In the case of difference equations in two dimensions which are separable the simultaneous, successive and some alternating direction Iteration schemes are studied in detailo In particular the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the error matrix are explicitly obtained.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the development of numerical techniques for solving elliptic partial differential equations. The author explores the convergence rates of iteration schemes for solving these equations, focusing on schemes that minimize a quadratic form. The book analyzes various schemes, including simultaneous, successive, and alternating direction schemes. By providing explicit solutions and eigenvalues for each scheme, the author offers a comprehensive understanding of their behavior and effectiveness. The book's mathematical rigor provides a solid foundation for researchers and practitioners working in numerical analysis and scientific computing. Its insights contribute to the field's progress by identifying successful strategies for solving elliptic equations and enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of numerical methods.
