Sinopsis

Excerpt from Reconstructive Criticism: A Theory to Reconcile the Difficulties of Higher Criticism

Mosaic Pentateuch, resting on such a basis, would be a Penta teuch hardly flavored with Moses. Professor Driver does some splendid maneuvering with words in his effort to establish the value and authority of Deuteronomy as a part of the Old Testa ment canon, while denying to the book a Mosaic origin. He says also that, in the first place, though it may appear paradox ical to say so, Deuteronomy does not claim to be written by Moses. Well, admit all this, nevertheless Deuteronomy requires that we have, in the Speeches attributed therein to Moses, his words as truly as we have the words of Christ in the Speeches of Christ which John records.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a new theory for reconciling the difficulties found in the narrative portions of the Old Testament. The author, a former professor of Semitic Languages at Vanderbilt University, dives into the historical and literary context of the Pentateuch and argues that a 'mediating school' of thought has failed to adequately address the credibility of these accounts. The author contends that the narrative discrepancies in the Pentateuch are due to the unifying of two originally independent histories of Israel. This theory is illustrated through the examination of events such as the meeting of Jacob and Rachel at the well, the Song of Moses, and the account of Creation. By separating the two original histories and analyzing the themes and ideas within each, the author provides a framework for understanding the Pentateuch as a coherent and historically credible account. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Nº de ref. del artículo: 9781332185054_0
