1. The communication of the thoughts and affections from one person to another, may be accomplished either by changes of the countenance and by gestures in general, by spoken sounds, or by written signs. On the first of these modes of conveying thought, we, in an "Introduction to Phonography," (which is professedly the writing of sounds,) have nothing to say, and shall therefore proceed at once to the subject o(spoken and written language.
