Excerpt from Camera Knowledge for the Photoplaywright
Hugh C. McCLUNG is one of the more thoughtful and progressive class of cinematographers. In early life an enthusiastic amateur photographer, Mr. McClung became a newspaper expert with the camera and finally took up motion photography, starting with the old Melies Company, one of the pioneer organizations in the making of motion pictures. Mr. McClung later became identified with the St. Louis Motion Picture Company, Fine Arts, William Fox, Triangle, Douglas Fairbanks, Famous Players-Lasky, D. N. Schwab Productions, Inc., and other well-known companies. He photographed The Wonderful Schools of Los Angeles and exhibited the film at the Panama Pacific Exposition at San Francisco, winning first prize. Mr. McClung has not been satisfied merely to accupy himself with the daily routine of turning the crank of a motion picture camera, but has experimented and studied, and several important discoveries and inventions are credited to him as a result.
