Excerpt from Chardenal's French Exercises: For Advanced Pupils
For the greater convenience of the student, instead of two lists, one which refers both to the idiomatic verbs and to the idiomatic expressions has been sub stituted. Many obsolete idioms have been omitted, and all the idioms in each exercise will be found in the section correspondingly numbered in the list.

Excerpt from Chardenal's French Exercises: For Advanced Pupils
In this edition of Chardenal's "Advanced Exercises" it has been my intention not so much to correct the book as to adapt it to the needs of American pupils, and to the scope of our courses of study.
As the book is intended for pupils who have had one year of French in college, or two years in elementary or preparatory schools, some words in vocabularies and some foot-notes in the first part, with which the student should be perfectly familiar, have been omitted. In the second part, the sentences in the French exercises have been reduced in number from eighteen in each exercise to eleven or twelve, and those in the English, with some changes, from thirty-six to twenty-five, thus avoiding too much repetition.
For the greater convenience of the student, instead of two lists, one which refers both to the idiomatic verbs and to the idiomatic expressions has been substituted. Many obsolete idioms have been omitted, and all the idioms in each exercise will be found in the section correspondingly numbered in the list.
