Excerpt from Winter Homes for Invalids: An Account of the Various Localities in Europe and America, Suitable for Consumptives and Other Invalids During the Winter Months, With Special Reference to the Climatic Variations at Each Place, and Thier Influence on Disease
In the preparation of this volume I have endeavored to give a succinct account of the distinctive climatic features of the various winter resorts for invalids, and their influence on disease. The subject embraces such an extensive field that much statistical and other information has been necessarily curtailed, but the principal facts have been enumerated. In addition to the results of my own personal observation in Europe and America, I have investigated the meteorological records, reports of health commissions, and the recorded observations of other physicians with reference to each place under consideration. By this means I have been enabled to arrive at a proper estimate of the value of the different climates in the treatment of disease. The advantages and disadvantages are clearly set forth, so that there can be no difficulty in making a proper selection for each invalid.
