A few remarks on the formation and constitution of Mediaeval Libraries, on the writing and illuminating of mss., and the course of reading prescribed in monasteries, may not be amiss here; any observations On private libraries, at any rate in Somerset at the period with which we are dealing, might be confined within almost as narrow limits as the celebrated essay on Snakes in Ireland.
