Excerpt from Object and Outline Teaching; A Guide Book for Sunday-School Workers: Designed to Explain, Defend, and Exemplify the Use of Objects, the Blackboard, Maps, and Pictures in Sunday-School Teaching
Not long ago, the pastor of one of the largest and most active churches of an eastern city de scribed to me a painful experience. In the old home Bible was a wretched print of the cruci fixion, the chief feature of which was a copious use of glaring red paint, representing blood. That print made such an impression upon his young mind that to this day he has never been able to rid himself of it. Even in his prayers, the dis torted caricature rises before him and blurs his Visions of the eternal Saviour.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book advocates for the Visible Illustration method of teaching in Sunday schools. Introduced by the author as a novel method of teaching religious lessons, Visible Illustration is a method that relies on objects, outlines, pictures, and maps to make biblical truths easier to grasp for children. The author, who acknowledges concerns about possible abuse of the method and its resemblance to Roman ritual, presents a Christian perspective and includes cautionary advice throughout the text. The book delves into the philosophy of Visible Illustration to provide a theoretical basis for its use. It also explains its many utility benefits, such as its ability to enhance attention, improve understanding, provide a more direct route to the lesson, economize resources, and serve as a substitute for less skilled or shy teachers. The author further discusses the impact of Visible Illustration on memory and retention, and its ability to link religious truths with everyday experiences. Additionally, the book includes a chapter providing evidence for the method's origin in divine teachings. Furthermore, the book contains practical hints and example lessons for the practical implementation of the Visible Illustration method.
