Sir,
I was amazed last night at the Græcian Coffee-House to hear you, of all Men, inveigh against restraining the Licentiousness of the Press; because, to my knowledge, you had been long of a different Opinion.
I was indeed the more supriz'd, because I had been Talking about you the Night before, with a Comrade, at whose Father's House in the Country, you pass'd the last Christmass time was three year: You, Sir, and my Friend's Father, it seems, spent most of the long Evenings in a familiar Discourse upon this very Argument, viz. Whether it would be a Publick Good to lay an effectual Restraint upon the Press, of no?
And you having taken up the Affirmative, my Friend, who writes Short-Hand, was order'd to take down all that should be said on either Side; which he did, and afterwards transcribed it; and hath lately favour'd me with a Copy.
You was pleas'd to take Notice, That the Queen's Majesty, having, at the opening of that Parliament, justly complained to both Houses of an Injury done.
