Chilling portraits of power and control unfold as a sharp critique of religious authority.
This nonfiction work gathers dramatic scenes and reflections drawn from early American clashes over Catholic influence, exploring how faith and institutions intersect with family, education, and public life. The pages read with the intensity of a courtroom drama, presenting personal testimonies, controversial claims, and historical episodes designed to provoke thought about religion in society. Readers will encounter vivid narratives about convent life, accusations of misconduct, and the emotional toll on individuals and communities.

Excerpt from The Devil in Robes, or the Sin of Priests: The Gory Hand of Catholicism Stayed, the Prayers of Protestants Heard
In presenting this authentic history of Romish rule in the isles of Cuba, Porto Rico and Philippines, we come before the public with an entirely new work, new engravings, new every thing, but the fact of the curse of Romanism in our world. The title is well chosen and fitly illustrates the work, The Devil in Robes, or The Sin of Priests. For if anywhere in modern times the blackness of the darkness of Roman hellishness or Jesuitical ingenuity in torture of humanity for the enrichment of the Man of Sin, or the enslavement of the masses to Popish priestcraft has been manifested, it is certainly in these islands, under papal rule for the past four centuries.

Excerpt from The Devil in Robes, or the Sin of Priests: The Gory Hand of Catholicism Stayed, the Prayers of Protestants Heard
We beg to say that we have no apologies to make to the Catholic world for bringing out this volume, for if it is not an American duty to throttle and expose Romish cunning and Popish pollution of American institutions and American morals, then we are in the wrong for laying bare the slimy doings of Rome and her benighted cohorts; but if it is right, why should we bow down to Pope, bishop and priest and say, "We have done it, but beg your pardon?" Never; we want to say to the American and Protestant world that we have hewed to the line, and if Pope Leo and his "Scarlet Horse" don't like it, stop your infamous practices. We are Americans first, last and all the time, and no true American can be a patriot and bow down to an Italian Pontiff, and hold himself in readiness to do his bidding.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a scathing critique of Roman Catholicism, specifically focusing on its influence in Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines during a time of great social and political upheaval. The author, writing from a Protestant perspective, exposes what he sees as the dark underbelly of the Catholic Church, using vivid anecdotes and historical accounts to paint a picture of a faith that thrives on ignorance, oppression, and, most shockingly, the abuse of power by its clergy. The book delves into the secret oaths taken by priests, explores the power of the confessional box, and examines how Catholicism's influence hinders education and promotes an unquestioning subservience to the Pope. The author argues that this system not only subjugates individuals but also undermines the principles of democracy and freedom. This powerful and often controversial work is a potent reminder of the long history of conflict between Protestantism and Catholicism and how religious beliefs have shaped political and social structures.
