Sinopsis

Excerpt from The Life and Exploits of the Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote De La Mancha, Vol. 3: Translated From the Original Spanish of Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra

Heaven S! With what impatience, gentle, or, it may be, simple reader, must thou be now waiting for this preface, expecting to find in it resentments, rail ings, and invectives without number, against the au thor of the second Don Quixote him, I mean, who, it is said, was begotten in Tordes1llas, and whelped in Tarragona! But, in truth, it is'not my design to give thee that satisfaction; for, though injuries are apt to awaken choler in the humblest breasts, yet in mine must this rule admit of an exception. Thou wouldst have me, perhaps, call him ass, coxcomb, madman! But no. Be his own sin his punishment; let him chew the cud of remorse, and there, for me, let the matter rest.

Bless me! with what impatience, illustrious, or perhaps plebeian reader, must you now be waiting for this preface, expecting to find in it resentments, railings, and invectives against the author of the second Don Quixote; him I mean, who, it is said, was begotten in Tordesillas, and born in Tarragona! But, in truth, it is not my design to give you that satisfaction; for, though injuries are apt to awaken choler in the humblest breasts, yet in mine this rule must admit of an exception. You would have me, perhaps, call him ass, madman, and coxcomb: but I have no such design. Let his own sin be his punishment; let him chew upon it, and there let it rest.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book is a notable literary piece whose narrative revolves around the chivalrous adventures of a man who has lost touch with reality, Don Quixote, and a peasant called Sancho Panza. The author ingeniously critiques the popularity of chivalric novels through this endearing yet deluded protagonist. Don Quixote's earnest yet absurd belief that he is a knight errant is contrasted with the grounded skepticism of Sancho Panza, resulting in a masterful exploration of the boundary between fantasy and reality. The episodic structure of the novel allows for a wide range of social and philosophical themes to be explored and the relentless idealism and optimism of Don Quixote are ultimately set against the harsh truths of the real world. This story is a timeless classic that continues to be popular around the world today.
