Sinopsis

A tense, character-driven tale set in a coastal parish that follows a jealous rector, his wife, and a circle of friends wrestling with love, duty, and truth.

In a dreary seaside town, a proud clergyman battles inner conflict and suspicion as he confronts a marriage on the brink. The story surveys faith, temptation, and the cost of choices made in secrecy, all against a backdrop of gray skies, quiet streets, and looming church life.

- Explore the pull between public duty and private desire in a rigid social world
- Meet a rector whose sea‑front parish becomes a testing ground for faith and loyalty
- See how rumors, pride, and love collide in a story of mistaken beliefs and fragile trust
- Follow a network of friends and mentors who weigh responsibility against personal longing

Ideal for readers who enjoy character-focused Victorian fiction with moral tension and a vivid sense of place.

September, with a keen wind, that seemed to speak already of the coming winter, blowing from the great North Sea, over the long bare sea coast, which, un broken by a single cliff, was SO monotonous as almost to be grand in its sameness, one long level of sand stretching along for miles. There were lights in the distance from the town, and in the dim grey of the evening the Ships that were coming, or going, to all parts of the world could be discerned.

A Chill evening in the middle of September, with a keen wind, that seemed to speak already of the coming winter, blowing from the great North Sea, over the long bare sea coast, which, unbroken by a single cliff, was so monotonous as almost to be grand in its sameness, one long level of sand stretching along for miles.
