Excerpt from Practical School Problems
The discussion is concerned chiefly with two points:
(a) The use of models in the seventh and eighth years;
(b) The correction of children's compositions.
But, by way of introduction to these main topics, it is necessary to run over very briefly the kind of work to be done during the first six years.
I. Oral Composition
Oral composition is the natural beginning of the subject. This may take the following forms:
(a) All answers to questions in the class room should be required in complete statements. If the question is, "How many are five and three?" do not take "eight" for an answer, but insist on, "Five and three are eight." If the question is, "What is the capital of New York?" the answer must be, "The capital of New York is Albany."
