Sinopsis

This book analyzes the impact of free and slave labor on the sugar, coffee, and cotton markets in the wake of international efforts to suppress the transatlantic slave trade. The author argues that while Western governments, particularly Great Britain, have condemned the slave trade as immoral, they continue to rely on its products. As a result, the abolition of the slave trade has done little to discourage slavery itself and has instead led to a decline in the economic viability of free labor in many parts of the world. The author asserts that Western governments must confront the reality of their continued reliance on slave labor and commit themselves to more just and equitable trade practices.
