Excerpt from The Agricultural College: A Study in Organization and Management and Especially in Problems of Teaching
So the teacher ought to know what he is doing, and why. And he ought to see his work in relation to all the other work of the college. This means that he should have a clear conception of college policies. I hope that this book will make it seem worth While to look at college questions from the teach er's point of view; and most of all, I wish that teachers might awaken to the necessity of broadening their views of such questions. Too many teachers are content to know nothing outside their own departments.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the evolving landscape of agricultural instruction and administration in America, addressing both past and present institutional structures and pedagogical approaches. The author, a college professor with extensive experience, argues that the land-grant institutions created in the 19th century to advance agricultural understanding had a dual mandate: to provide professional training and personal enrichment. The book explores the balance between these purposes, tracing the influence of changing social and economic realities and technological developments. The author highlights a continuing debate in agricultural education between scientific and technical approaches and advocates for a curriculum that combines professional knowledge with the broader values of personal culture and service to society. Ultimately, the author challenges agricultural colleges and universities to embrace a vision of education that fully realizes both dimensions of their mission.
