Excerpt from Notes of Talks on Teaching
Remembering this, I have thought that something of the man, as well as his methods, might prove interesting to the readers of the Notes. I have, therefore, persuaded Col. Parker to give me the salient points of his life, more especially those that bear upon his career as a teacher, and these I have thrown into shape and order in the sketch which follows.

There is, perhaps, no name more widely known among the teachers of this country, than that of Col. Francis W. Parker. The results of his supervision of the Quincy schools have made him the most talked of, if not the most popular educator of our time. Whatever may be thought of him or his work - and it would be idle to deny that opinions differ regarding both - he is acknowledged, even by his opponents, to be one of those who are destined to mould public opinion. Concerning such the world is always curious. We desire to know their history, their environment, that we may judge their power.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a fascinating glimpse into the revolutionary teaching methods of Colonel Francis W. Parker, a prominent educator of the late 19th century. The author delves into Parker's life, tracing his journey from a young boy with a passion for teaching to a war veteran who ultimately dedicated himself to reforming American education. The book explores Parker's "Quincy System," a radical departure from traditional rote learning that emphasized the development of the whole child ââ â body, mind, and soul ââ â through engaging and experiential learning. Parker's ideas, grounded in the principles of Comenius, Pestalozzi, and Froebel, challenged the rigid structures of the time, advocating for a more holistic and child-centered approach to education. Through detailed descriptions of Parker's methods, the book offers a valuable historical perspective on the evolution of educational philosophy and practice, highlighting the enduring significance of Parker's contributions to progressive education.
