Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book introduces Umbundu grammar, a Bantu dialect spoken by over two million people in southwestern Africa. It begins with the basics of pronunciation, including vowel harmony and consonant succession rules. The author examines the declension of nouns, and outlines the ways in which adjectives modify nouns through the use of pronominal prefixes. Thematic depth comes from a comprehensive examination of Umbundu verbs. The book highlights the unique derivative structure of verbs, in which each verb has an innitive form and five additional forms with distinct meanings. These forms consist of the simple, causative, passive, relative, reexive, and reduplicative forms. The author elucidates the inection of these verbs across three moodsâ"indicative, imperative, and innitiveâ"and four tenses: present, perfect, past perfect, and future. The text concludes by presenting the author's insights into the complex relationship between substantive preformatives and pronominal prefixes, concluding that the Umbundu language features a high level of variation in noun classiication, with 15 noun classes in total. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Nº de ref. del artículo: 9781330680070_0
