N the preface to the first edition of this publication, which was published in January 1908, we called attention to the tremendous annual loss of residence property caused by fire.
Up to that time there had been but a very meagre amount of construction in fireproof residence buildings of moderate cost, and sources of information as to practical details of construction, cost, etc. Were correspondingly scarce.
