The comic selections, in several instances, essentially include, the underplots of the dramas from which they are taken, and are, therefore, quite complete in themselves. Some of the sprightliest pieces, as "Braggadocio" and "Detraction," comprise satisfactory portions of plays that, as a whole, are not adapted to the modern stage. The version of "William Tell" here given is not identical with the common acting edition of that drama.
