Excerpt from Record of Mr. Alcott's School, Exemplifying the Principles and Methods of Moral Culture
The methods of education so successfully tried in the Temple long ago are so kindly welcomed now, even the very imperfect hints in the story, - that I cannot consent to receive the thanks and commen dations due to another.

Excerpt from Record of Mr. Alcott's School, Exemplifying the Principles and Methods of Moral Culture
The great interest inspired by Miss Alcott's "Little Men" has led to the inquiry if ever there was or could be a school like Plumfield; and she has proposed the republication of the "Record of a School," which was published thirty-eight years ago, and which suggested some of the scenes described in "Little Men."
In a note that lies before me Miss Alcott says: "The methods of education so successfully tried in the Temple long ago are so kindly welcomed now, - even the very imperfect hints in the story, - that I cannot consent to receive the thanks and commendations due to another.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book is a distillation of the methods and principles of the Temple School, which the author established in Boston in the 19th century. Through a narrative of the school's first year, the author discusses his vision for education, which has as its goals the development of self-awareness, self-government, and moral reasoning. The author's guiding principle is that children are naturally inclined toward spiritual growth; his methods are designed to cultivate that inclination. Concepts such as kindness, humility, and compassion are discussed openly in this unique school, and all aspects of the curriculumâ"including reading, writing, and arithmeticâ"are used as a means of developing these traits. This book offers valuable insights into the history of education, providing an alternative perspective on the purpose of teaching. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
