Excerpt from Report on the Quantum Theory of Spectra
The present report was written originally for the private use of Messrs. Adam Hilger, and was then, at their instance, amplified and prepared for publication. But even with this extension it will be found to contain a brief account of only the most important contributions to the Quantum Theory of Spectra, a new field'6f inquiry opened only six or seven years ago by Niels Bohr, but already very vast and rapidly growing and ramifying in multiple directions. It will, no doubt, soon call for a supplement. As it is, however, it is hoped to be a helpful guide for those desiring to enter upon this new and strangely fascinating line of thought and investigation.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the development of quantum theory through a study of how it was applied to the study of atomic spectra, one of the major scientific preoccupations of the early 20th century. The author charts the progress of the theory by examining the work of Niels Bohr, Arnold Sommerfeld, and others, tracing advances in our understanding of atomic structure and the emission and absorption of light. The book also looks into the uncertain and exciting climate of theoretical physics in the early 20th century and provides a unique insight into the development of the fundamental ideas of quantum mechanics. This book will be of value to academics, scientists, and anyone interested in the history of physics.
