Excerpt from An Introduction to the Study of Political Economy: Or Elementary View of the Manner in Which the Wealth of Nations Is Produced, Increased, Distributed, and Consumed
If the strange discordance of opinion, which has lately been manifested on the report of the Bullion Committee, affords a lamentable evidence how little the true principles of Political Economy are understood in this country, the uncommon interest which the controversy has excited seems however to warrant the hope that the attempt to render the science more accessible will not be deemed altogether unworthy of public approbation.
It is particularly for those to whom rank or fortune hold out the noble prospect of being one day called to legislate for their fellow-subjects, that I have condensed the elements of a science on which so great a share of human happiness depends, and which, on that account, can never be though repulsive by those who feel interested in the welfare of their country.
I lay no claim to either originally or invention.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book, a seminal work in political economy, explains how nations create wealth, or the stock of consumables available to a society. The author argues that three factors are essential to this process: land, which provides resources; labor, the human effort required to transform those resources into useful goods; and capital, or the accumulated stock of useful goods that can facilitate further production. The author discusses how each of these factors contributes to the creation of wealth, and how their interaction can lead to increased prosperity. He also explores the role of government in promoting economic growth, and the importance of protecting property rights and fostering innovation. This book remains a valuable resource for understanding the foundations of economic prosperity.
