Reseña del editor

Excerpt from Notes About a Collection of Singular Sayings, Curious Customs, Eccentric Epitaphs, and Interesting Items, Historical and Antiquiarian

Prompted by sueli feelings and considerations as these, the Editor of the present work commenced within the columns of the Nottingham Guardian, a paper with which he is professionally connected, a series of notes and queries on local historical and antiquarian topics. The step was taken as it were at a venture, not that there could be any doubt as to the richness of the mine that was open for exploration, but that with one exception he had to trust to fate to bring willing and active workers to his assistance. At the commencement, the aid of an industrious friend, Mr. J. P. Briscoe, the principal librarian at the Nottingham Free Library, was readily given, and in the course of a few weeks the editor found valuable help courteously forthcoming.
