213.A line AB cut at two points X and Y (fig 1), or an angle AB cut by two lines X and Y (fig. 2), is said to he cut harmonically when the ratios (AX: BX and AY: BY) of the two pairs of segments into which it is divided in the former case, or (sin AX: sin BX and sin AY: sin BY) of the sines of the two pairs of segments into which it is divided in the latter case, are equal in magnitude and opposite in sign.
