Sinopsis

The Story of Commander Allen Gardiner, R.N. is a vivid historical memoir of a naval officer who becomes a dedicated missionary and leads efforts in South America. It weaves together his bold travels, the توزيع of mission stations, and the challenges faced by early cross‑cultural outreach.

This edition gathers portraits of Gardiner’s leadership, the ships that carried the mission, and the communities touched by faith, education, and translation work. It also recounts the dedication of supporters at home and the fragile, but persistent, growth of chaplaincies and outreach across the region.

- Follow Gardiner’s voyage, the founding of mission stations, and the daily life of missionaries in coastal towns and frontier lands.
- Learn how language study, schooling, and Bible distribution shaped early mission strategy.
- See the reactions of local communities, colonial authorities, and believers as they navigated dangers and cultural differences.
- Discover the broader history of South American mission efforts, including the interplay between ships, settlements, and indigenous communities.

Ideal for readers of historical biographies and those curious about the beginnings of Christian missions in South America, especially from a maritime‑driven perspective.

Excerpt from The Story of Commander Allen Gardiner, R. N: With Sketches of Missionary Work in South America

Ten years have now elapsed since that time, and some account of the intervening period has been repeatedly asked for by those who are interested in the South American Mission. Hence, the present volume. Captain Gardiner's missionary researches in South America have been again related, and a short narrative has been given of efforts made for ten years to follow up the work in that great country. It will be seen that the early history of the Mission is in harmony with the suggestions and plans of the founder.

Excerpt from The Story of Commander Allen Gardiner, R. N : With Sketches of Missionary Work in South America

The original Memoir of Captain Gardiner was published in 1857, when the Fuegian Mission had recently been established by the adoption of the plan recommended in memoranda, which were written by Captain Gardiner, in Tierra del Fuego, a little before his death. The missionary schooner, Allen Gardiner, had been built, Keppel Island had been selected for the station on the Falklands, and a clergyman had been appointed to superintend the working of the Mission.
