When the subject, the discussion of which we have under taken, was proposed for competition, the question pro bably arose in the minds Of many persons, whether it were advisable to entertain it, or whether, in the judg ment Of the Society for the Advancement Of Christian Morals,* as well as in that Of every man, the duty Of forming religious convictions should not take precedence Of the duty Of professing them, - whether the present condition Of society, did not rather call for a discussion Of the former than Of the latter subject. The translator presents the following Essay to the British public, in the full persuasion, that he is thereby conferring upon them at once a benefit and a gratification: a benefit, inasmuch as it treats of subjects of leading and vital importance at the present epoch; and a gratification, from the very talented and superior manner in which those subjects are discussed. Professor A. Vinet, is already well known in this country as an author, and is duly appreciated by those persons whose thorough acquaintance with the French language, renders them competent judges of his works; by many of whom, a strong desire has been expressed to see this Essay in an English dress.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the foundational Christian duty of confessing one's faith and religious convictions. It delves into the nature of conviction and argues it is inherent to human nature, while addressing a skepticism prevalent in modern society that obscures this tenet. The author asserts that the profession of faith is inseparable from a genuine Christian life and is part of a larger duty to uphold truth. While acknowledging the difficulties and potential risks, the book also underscores the essential role of personal confession in strengthening both individual faith and the collective fabric of society. It contends that the very nature of communion with God and the concept of a shared humanity necessitate the expression of one's deepest beliefs. This duty is described as more than just a passive adherence to a set of tenets. Instead, it is an active process of living according to one's convictions and reflecting the principles of one's faith in all aspects of life, thereby exemplifying a model of Christian living in the world.
