Excerpt from Solitude: Considered, With Respect to Its Influence Upon the Mind and the Heart
The following Translation of a Work marked with the strongest features of Benevolence and Christianity, and which tends at once to sooth the mind of the Afflicted, and to teach the Happy the true art of increasing their enjoyments, has received that approbation and encouragement which it so well deserved. The Proprietor, while he expresses his gratitude for the favours thus bestowed upon him, thinks it his duty to caution the Public against a smaller work under a similar title, published by certain persons, stiling themselves The Associated Booksellers. That work is made up of partial and surreptitious extracts from the above; whereby the sense is perverted, the arrangement mutilated, and all that can interest the feelings of the Reader, in favour of the amiable Author, is entirely omitted.
