Hook line: Explore how truth works and why ideas matter in real life, not just in theory. In this book, the concept of truth is examined from pragmatism, idealism, and beyond to show what ideas do for us.
In The Problem of Truth, the author offers a clear, careful look at competing ways to think about truth. It ties philosophical questions to practical consequences, including how beliefs shape our actions and even our view of religion. The discussion moves from classic theories to modern challenges, making complex ideas accessible without oversimplifying them.

Excerpt from The Problem of Truth
The dilemma in regard to truth does not arise. But, as always in philosophy, the solution of one problem is the emergence of another. There is no finality.

Excerpt from The Problem of Truth
A problem of philosophy is completely different from a problem of science. In science we accept our subject matter as it is presented in unanalysed experience; in philosophy we examine the first principles and ultimate questions that concern conscious experience itself. The problem of truth is a problem of philosophy. It is not a problem of merely historical interest, but a present problem - a living controversy, the issue of which is undecided. Its present interest may be said to centre round the doctrine of pragmatism, which some fifteen years ago began to challenge the generally accepted principles of philosophy. In expounding this problem of truth, my main purpose has been to make clear to the reader the nature of a problem of philosophy and to disclose the secret of its interest. My book presumes no previous study of philosophy nor special knowledge, of its problems. The theories that I have shown in conflict on this question are, each of them, held by some of the leaders of philosophy. In presenting them, therefore, I have tried to let the full dialectical force of the argument appear. I have indicated my own view, that the direction in which the solution lies is in the new conception of life and the theory of knowledge given to us in the philosophy of Bergson.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the age-old philosophical question of truth. The author delves into the fundamental nature of reality and how we come to understand it through our senses and reason. He challenges the reader to examine their own assumptions about the world, questioning whether our ideas are mere copies of reality or something more complex. The author traces this problem back to the ancient Greek philosophers and then examines two key theories of truth: the correspondence theory, which posits that truth is a matter of ideas aligning with reality, and the coherence theory, which suggests truth resides in the internal consistency of our thoughts. The author then introduces the concept of the Absolute, a key idea in idealist philosophy, which argues that reality is fundamentally logical and that true knowledge involves the discovery of an inner meaning within our experience. The book explores the contradictions inherent in our ideas about space, time, and self, ultimately concluding that reality is a harmonious, self-contained existence that we can only truly grasp through a profound understanding of our own consciousness. The author's insightful exploration of the complexities of truth and reality is sure to challenge and engage readers interested in the enduring questions of philosophy.
