Sinopsis

Excerpt from An Introduction to the Theory of Automorphic Functions

The present tract had its origin in a series of lectures on Automorphic Functions given to the Mathematical Research Class of the University of Edinburgh during the Spring Term of 1915.

I wish to express em grateful acknowledgment of my indebted ness to Professor Whittaker, Who has read the manuscript during the course of its preparation, and has made many valuable suggestions; and to Mr Herbert Bell, who assisted in the preparation of the Bibliography.

Excerpt from An Introduction to the Theory of Automorphic Functions

Owing largely to the researches of Poincare and Klein the domain of Automorphic Functions has expanded enormously during the last thirty-five years; and the ramifications of the subject have extended into many and diverse fields. This has caused embarrassment in the selection of materials for a book of modest dimensions, and has necessitated a brief treatment, or in some cases the exclusion, of many important and attractive subjects. The aim throughout has been to present in as thorough a manner as possible the concepts and theorems on which the theory is founded, and to describe in less detail certain of its important developments.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the intricacies of automorphic functions - a subject that has captivated mathematicians for decades and is rooted in complex analysis. It adeptly weaves together the theory's historical underpinnings with its potent applications in fields such as number theory and geometry. The author guides readers through the fascinating world of linear transformations and Fuchsian groups, laying bare the profound connections between complex numbers and geometric configurations. With rigor and clarity, the book presents concepts like the modular group and the fundamental region, along with their significance in number theory and modular forms. By exploring the interplay between analytic functions and geometric transformations, this book serves as a valuable resource for mathematicians and enthusiasts seeking to deepen their understanding of automorphic functions and their far-reaching implications. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
