Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the intricate relationship between social work values and Jewish values, exploring their historical development, areas of convergence, and points of tension. The author argues that both social work and the Jewish community in the United States have reached a stage where clarifying their core values is crucial for continued growth and survival. By examining the historical context of both value systems, the author reveals how they have evolved over time. Social work, initially rooted in notions of charity and moral uplift, has transitioned towards emphasizing the dignity and self-determination of individuals. Similarly, Jewish values, while deeply rooted in tradition and community, have also embraced universal principles of human worth and social justice. The book delves into the complexities of these value systems, acknowledging the presence of both democratic and anti-democratic elements within each. It challenges the assumption of a singular, monolithic set of values for both social work and Judaism, highlighting the internal conflicts and diverse interpretations that exist. Ultimately, this book provides valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by Jewish social workers as they navigate the intersection of their professional and personal identities. By understanding the nuances and complexities of both value systems, social workers can better serve their communities and contribute to a more just and equitable society.
