Lesion. - If we examine microscopically a bit of mes entery or tongue of a frog or the tip of a rabbit's ear, that has been pinched or irritated by some chemical such as stronger acetic acid, we see the following changes in the blood vessels and blood. First there takes place a dilatation of the vessels. Then in a half hour's time there is a marked increase in the rapidity of the blood flow. Subsequently there is an equally marked slowing of the blood current and an accumulation in the veins and capillaries. Finally there may be stasis. Meanwhile changes have taken place in the elements of the blood cu'rrent. Instead of the normal cen tralization of the cell elements Within the serum, the White blood cells or leucocytes have entered the peripheral serum current and roll along and occasionally catch at the wall.
