Excerpt from The Philosophy of Preaching
This little volume contains the lectures given in the month of February of the present year, before the Divinity School of Yale University, on the Lyman Beecher foundation. It is not a treatise on homiletics. The questions connected with the preparation and the delivery of sermons have been intentionally passed by. The aim has been to deal with the more fundamental inquiry of the end of all preaching, and to emphasize the universal elements of all effective religious address. There has been no citation of authorities, for the simple reason that none were consulted and used.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book ponders the nature and importance of sermons, delving into their historical and philosophical foundations. Through an exploration of various approaches to sermonizing, from evangelical to evolutionary, the author challenges traditional understandings and offers a compelling argument for the enduring relevance of the sermon. Emphasizing the universality and practical focus of effective preaching, the book contends that sermons should aim not only at spiritual awakening but also at the moral and social transformation of individuals and communities. Rooted in the biblical concept of God's redeeming work in the world, this book presents a comprehensive philosophy of preaching that is both faithful to tradition and responsive to the needs of the contemporary church.
