Prompted by the solicitations Of friends, I have collected from the various publications in which they have appeared these simple rustic rhymes, and now Offer them for the first time in the form of a little book. In them I have endeavored to portray country life as it is; its joys and its sorrows, its humor and its pathos its hopes for the future and its traditions of the past, not as seen from a dis tance, but from the vantage ground of a life spent among rural people.
