Sinopsis

Excerpt from What Is Man?

As to the study of the human body, we have already at hand in the domain of lenowleclye many excellent works. For a deeper and more comprehensive knowl edge of the human body, therefore, I would refer the reader to any special work on either Anatomy or Physi ology, and this I do especially for the reason that I have had in view merely to show the relation of the body to the smt. This relation thus pointed out may, however, prove to be of particular value in understanding the importance and) value of the human body. The study of the human spirit is a far more dificult subject. This is not strange, for the subject-matter in this study is entirely invisible, while the subjeet-matter of the body is visible. Even in this field of study we fiad many valuable works by eminent authors. With reference to their respective works I would say: Omnia probate, quad bon/um. Est tenete.
